Bovine Beauties by Alexandra Woods Featuring at River Cottage HQ at the moment
Following the publicity and vulnerability of cows during the BSE and
Foot and Mouth crises, Alex became interested in these creatures as a
subject matter for drawings and paintings. Initially Alex studied the
inhabitants of Petersham Meadows and then further afield to the local
countryside and agricultural shows. These studies have developed into
bold, oil drawings and paintings onto canvas, capturing the essence of
the cows' 'personalities'. With a diverse creative experience including
a degree in textile design, an MA in Sequential Illustration and
lecturing in Art and Design, her work provides an eclectic mix of
processes, colour and composition.

Viable Self Sufficiency
We believe that a smallholding can be more than just an expensive
hobby. We have enjoyed this way of life since our early twenties,
including several years living on an offshore island where we came as
near to total self sufficiency as is possible in this day and age.We
now offer down to earth advice for the smallholder or self supporter,
together with practical “hands on” short courses, and are regular
contributors to the popular magazine “Country Smallholding”.
