At last! River Cottage Ice Cream

At River Cottage we have wanted to make ice cream for some time. In fact the search started over three years ago and it has been a long, but nevertheless enjoyable, journey to find the right people to make our ice cream. In Roskilly’s, of Cornwall, we think we have found the perfect choice.

Once we had found the “best ice cream maker in the country” the next task was to find the right packaging to fit with our River Cottage ethos. Obviously we required something stylish and recognisable but above all it had to be eco-friendly. After a mammoth search we found the answer - a carton from London Bio Packaging made from 50% recycled material and 50% FSC certified material. Using a label printed with soya inks, we are delighted to say the whole of this packaging is fully domestically compostable – a first!

"Our Organic Real ice cream is made using only four simple ingredients, this is the closest thing you'll ever find to old fashioned home made ice cream.  I've handed my own recipe to Roskilly's and, using the finest organic milk and cream from their own Jersey herd, together with the best organic cane sugar and locally-sourced hand-cracked eggs, they've made what I believe is the best ice cream ever.  It's utterly delicious on its own, but if you want to make a dinner party dessert of it, then I certainly wouldn't begrudge you a few sliced strawberries, or a scattering of crumbled fudge."

"Our Somerset Cider Brandy and Raisin ice cream is made from a base of just four simple ingredients this is the nearest thing you'll find to old fashioned home made ice cream.  I just handed my recipe to Roskilly's and, using the finest organice milk and cream from their Jersey herd, plus hand-cracked local eggs and the bet organic cane sugar, they did the rest, and made the best ice cream ever.  All we've added is plump organic raisins steeped in Julian Temperley's famous Somerset Cider Apple Brandy, making our lovely real ice cream into a highly indulgent, grown-up dessert."

Remember this is "serious grown-up" ice cream.  Roskilly's tell us when it melts, it still holds its shape and remains thick and gorgeous.  It doesn't dissolve into nothing...unless you eat it of course!
