Visitor Feedback

“………your best gift to us has been opening the café in a city where eating out can be a bit hit and miss. Many places just cater for the tourist and don't expect repeat custom, so fob people off with second rate fare. Having lived for many years in Italy we came to appreciate local seasonal fare of high quality and having returned to England found this ethos sadly lacking. But not anymore, thanks to you we can now anticipate delicate fresh summer fruit and veg, autumn mushrooms and game all cooked to perfection by Gideon. Your staff are so friendly and informative and a great asset to the enterprise, so we wish you continued success you certainly deserve it! With all good wishes, Mary and John Richmond”

"Fabulous to have the privilege. Food fantastically different and ambience superb."

".....the dishes were great, particularly the rich Dorset crab on toast with chopped egg, parsley and lemon juice, which looked and tasted just like one of his newspaper recipes......A five-hour slow-roast piece of pork was perfect - ooh, the crackling - and the chocolate brownie at the end was one of the very best I have ever eaten, the crisp surface giving way to a deep well of rich, soft chocolate loveliness." The Observer, Sunday 7th June

"Trés bon repas, excellente cuisine, nous avons apprécié le beau travail du CHEF. Quant aux vins Anglais de bonnes surprises avec le Rosé Camel Valley et le blanc Sharpham 2006 Dart Valley Reserve. Felicitations."

"Lovely staff, scrumptious food, thank you!"

About  Us

The River Cottage Local Produce Store and Canteen, Axminster is open 7 days a week and can be found in the centre of the town on Trinity Square. At the Local Produce Store we stock a wide selection of the very best local and seasonal provisions including fruit and vegetables, meat and bread, pickles and preserves, wine and beer.  Virtually all of the produce has been sourced locally by Hugh and his team, from some of the very best South West producers, who regularly attend our weekly tastings. Like the Store, the Canteen also showcases  the very best of what the South West has to offer and what is in season, with menus changing daily.

Following on from the great success of the River Cottage Canteen in Axminster, the team join Komedia to bring River Cottage to Bath . The menu entirely reflects their famous seasonal, local ethos using some of the very best food and drink producers in the South West. All cooked on site, there will be new treats alongside old favourites originally created by Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall and his head chefs.
Komedia,
Bath is the perfect home for the latest venture from River Cottage. Both companies have a shared philosophy on entertaining and inspiring whether it involves delicious locally sourced food or exciting music and comedy acts. And the city itself is an amazing backdrop as a thriving South West location with a fantastic culinary reputation. A winning combination between food producers, entertainers, venue and visitors.
